the Soul Chronicles by Morgan Busse

Okay, wow.
I tell myself that I don't really love fantasy, and once again that changes when I pick up a Morgan Busse book!
I absolutely loved her Ravenwood saga and I might have been sucked into this steampunk fantasy even faster!
I loved how she creates her characters, how she builds her worlds, how she challenges her readers and her characters.
For me it's all about great characters, I find that when I'm drawn to and root for these fictional people, it almost doesn't matter what world they live in.
Kat and Steven are imperfect, flawed wounded people that are caught in a epic fight that has you asking "is there a cure for a wounded soul?"
I especially love how Busse intricately weaves a deep and powerful message into her story. She uses fantasy to explore the profound questions of our life. She reveals darkness that hides in our reality.
This story is fast paced and complex,  I loved it!

Picking up right were Tainted left off, Awakened takes you on the final leg of this epic journey.
These two books feel like part one and two of the same story.
This book is about Kat and the struggle that she constantly faces and feels like she is loosing. Her and Steven are on the search for a cure.
I saw Steven's growth and how he finally let go of the hurt that was tainting his life.
This series has a dark,  quite spooky quality to it that I found really fit with the setting and the themes explored in the story.
One thing that I really appreciate about this author's work is that the gospel message is clear and in the open,  yet does not feel preachy. The message of life and rebirth is so woven into the story that it is vital and seamless with the action and peril that takes place.
I fully enjoyed this story and I really hope we can come back to this world for more memorable adventures. Pleeeeese can we have Captain Grimm's story,  I am addicted to airships!
