Judah's wife by Angela Hunt

Very interesting history. I enjoyed gaining understanding of this period of Isreal's history. Having the story of Judah Maccabeus told actually gave me more perspective on the origins of some of the issues that are addressed in the new testament. The beginning of the book really pulled me in! I have only been aware of vague description of the Maccabeus story so it was pretty much all new to me. I really didn't like Leah for much of the book, I really thought she wasn't fair to Judah.  I don't know if that is how she really was or if that is just the fictional version of her. The ending just left me sad, but so is the way of many points in history.

Jamie Jo sure knows how to weave a story! I still enjoyed Foster Hill the most but this story has that trademark mystery with a good dose of creepy, that is unique to this author. I really enjoyed the time split aspect of the story and the author built up the story very well in both time periods. I haven't always loved split time books, but I think that they are growing on me. I kept on getting interrupted and sidetracked while reading this story, and that annoyed me, because I lost my reading momentum a few times. That last 100 pages really took off! I really appreciate the compassion and honesty that the author took in the topic of mental illness.  I absolutely loved the twists in the end!!! Very well done. I would have liked a touch more romance in the story, but it didn't detract from the story. All, in all a great book.

What kind of books to you keep on hand for work related reference?

Promise of Rayne by Nicole Deese

Okay, I am officially hooked on Nicole Deese's books! I really enjoyed the novella of hers that I read last year and I was looking forward to reading my first full length novel! I loved it so much! I loved the chemistry between the two main characters, I love their growth and development! I loved how the tension and conflict was just the right amount to keep me engaged, but not over the top. I don't read many "forbidden love" trope, but this one I really liked. It had a "real" feel to it and I liked the message about standing up for the truth. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a great contemporary Christian romance.

Brightest Dream by Susan Ann Mason

This is the second book I have read from this author and I enjoyed it the most! This book tackled some hard topics and sad realities in 1919, I had no idea that childhood indentures continued for so long! I was shocked! I enjoyed the history and the unique setting of Canada! The pacing of this book was perfect, always the right amount of tension or drama to keep me fully caught up in the story. There were a couple things that seemed wrapped up a bit easy, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story. I'd recommend this book for anyone looking for a historical drama set in the turn of the century. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgally, all opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinions.

my review of Land Beneath us

I have loved this series so much! Sarah Sundin has done a wonderful job of taking her readers back in time and make them feel as if they are witnessing the events play out before them. Surprisingly I didn't connect with this book in the beginning. No idea what was wrong with me! I have been so eager to finally read this book. For some strange reason I couldn't connect with Leah in the beginning (so weird). However the more I read, the more I became invested in the story and by the climax I was fully captured by the characters and racing to see how things were going to work out!

Love/hate

I love, love/hate stories! And I love the extreme love/hate where the characters go from being motivated to kill each other to willing to die for each other! These three books are that kind of story.  And I LOVE them! What is one of your favorite tropes? #christianfiction #lovehate #biblicalfiction #hisyoricalfiction
