Almost a Bride by Jody Hedlund

I have really enjoyed the first three books in this series,  and I was so happy that Zeke was getting his own story!
This book started out with me feeling a little disconnected from the main characters.  It's hard to narrow down why, but it just felt rushed in a way.
However the author did draw me in.
I think that this book was the lightest of the history feel of the series.  This book is all about the growth of character and the relationship between the two main characters. 
I had a bit of trouble catching on to the "instant love " angle. I was wondering where the story was going,  and I was really happy with how the story played out in the end. Jody Hedlund always writes the on page chemistry that you can feel! And I love that in a romance. 
I enjoyed the way the plot never lagged. Jody hedlund always pulls me in with her stories, and this one was no different.
I loved the message of redemption. The story was wrapped up nicely it just wasn't my favorite of the series, but still good.

Undercurrent of Secrets

Okay this is officially my favorite Rachel Scott McDaniel book yet! This book is a split time that is so well balanced between the past and the present. I loved the light thread of mystery and the contemporary just was so good. I loved the romance in both time periods. There were some absolutely adorable and swoony scenes in both that just was my favorite parts of this book. I loved the setting of the riverboat! So interesting how the author used an actual boat for the setting and so you get that peek into the lives of people who lived the riverboat life. If you want to feel transported grab this one, it's a gem. Thanks to Netgally I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are honest and my own.

I had seen this author's books floating around on Instagram and jumped at the chance to grab one on Netgally. Yes, I started with the last book in the series. It in no way lessened my enjoyment of this beautiful story. I love stories of people who get second chances. I love the opposites attract trope. And I love a strong redemption arc. This book had all of that. The author crafters characters that have their own flaws and struggles. I loved the hero. Though wounded and scarred from his past mistakes, he was lovable and I couldn't help but root for him. I loved his protective nature as well. Always here for the protective hero. The heroine is the opposite of him in many ways, and yet she was so relatable to a fellow rule abider like myself. I loved the way each character had to work through their struggles.
