Mark of the raven by Morgan Busse
If you know me at all, you know that I am not a huge fantasy fan.
It is few and far between that I am even tempted to try it.
However.
When I come across a good one, I am captivated.
Consider me captivated.
The first few chapters were a bit tough for me to wrap my mind around, and I did have concerns of where the whole "dark Lady" thing was going.
Buuuut
It was really good. I am thankful for my brother who is into lucid dreaming. After hearing him talk about it for so long I think I was prepared for the Dreamwalking element of the story. And I really liked Damien!
I am so glad I did wait until now to read it because all of the books are out and I can just read one after another.
I really appreciate the allegory quality of this series.
One thing that usually keeps me from getting into fantasy is a heavy magic element, or one that feels to close to sorcery. It goes against my convictions to get into that kind of stuff.
I did not get that feeling from this book. It's more like different people groups who have talents over certain elements (think Frozen).
I think the only thing I would want more of was a bit more action throughout, but I get that this first book is mostly setting up the whole story.
