This book was so good!
I loved how well paced it was and I loved the development between the two main characters.
The banter and verbal sparring was so entertaining. Kat and Barrett couldn't be more different from each other, but they made such a great team. And I really liked how the author wove the danger of being in Nazi occupied France into the story. The whole situation with the sister was disturbing but very authentic in what happened during that time.
And this author can write some tension!! I love the tension. LOVED the kisses too ;) I am definitely coming back to this author for more!
I felt like the immersion into the resistance was a bit quicker than what would have actually happened, and sometimes the transitions between scenes happened abruptly, but I got used to this style as I kept reading. Great romance! Just an all around entertaining, great read!

Undercurrent of Secrets

Okay this is officially my favorite Rachel Scott McDaniel book yet! This book is a split time that is so well balanced between the past and the present. I loved the light thread of mystery and the contemporary just was so good. I loved the romance in both time periods. There were some absolutely adorable and swoony scenes in both that just was my favorite parts of this book. I loved the setting of the riverboat! So interesting how the author used an actual boat for the setting and so you get that peek into the lives of people who lived the riverboat life. If you want to feel transported grab this one, it's a gem. Thanks to Netgally I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are honest and my own.

I had seen this author's books floating around on Instagram and jumped at the chance to grab one on Netgally. Yes, I started with the last book in the series. It in no way lessened my enjoyment of this beautiful story. I love stories of people who get second chances. I love the opposites attract trope. And I love a strong redemption arc. This book had all of that. The author crafters characters that have their own flaws and struggles. I loved the hero. Though wounded and scarred from his past mistakes, he was lovable and I couldn't help but root for him. I loved his protective nature as well. Always here for the protective hero. The heroine is the opposite of him in many ways, and yet she was so relatable to a fellow rule abider like myself. I loved the way each character had to work through their struggles.
